NEW FEATURES:
The View Menu:
The View menu has received a major overhaul. For starters, it now contains a new submenu, the Workspace Overlays submenu. The Workspace Overlays menu brings together several related options that were previously spread across different menus, making for a more logical grouping and easier location of these tools. These options turn on and off helpful guides that do not appear on your final DVD, but give you valuable information during the DVD assembly process. The following list gives a brief description of each of the options available under the Workspace Overlays submenu of the View menu. Note that each of these options was also available in version 1 with the exception of the brand new Show Button Masks option.
• Show Title Safe Area: this overlay gives you a guide for placing text safely within the
visible area of a television screen. It leaves enough space between your text and the
actual visible edge of a television screen so as to make sure your text is easy to read on
screen. You should not position text outside of the box defined by this overlay. You can
change the size of the Title Safe Area through the Editing tab of the Preferences dialog
under the Options menu, but in most cases, you should just leave these settings.
• Show Action Safe Area: this overlay defines a slightly larger area than the Title Safe
Area overlay. It represents the approximate edge of a standard television screen. You should position your graphics such that no critical information lands outside of the box defined by this overlay. You can change the size of the Action Safe Area through the Editing tab of the Preferences dialog under the Options menu, but again, you should normally leave it as the default.
• Show Object Order: object order refers to the layering of objects on your workspace. An
object (for instance, a button or a graphic) with a higher object order number obscures any object with a lower object order number if the two objects occupy (or partially occupy) the same physical space. You can change the object order of an object through the Edit menu.
• Show Grid: this overly helps you properly align the objects in your workspace. You can
adjust the grid settings through the Grid Settings option under the Options menu.
• Show Button Masks: this overlay—new to version 2—helps you when working with
invisible buttons. You would add invisible buttons if you've used a graphics program to
create custom button artwork, and simply need an invisible button to act as a link on
your DVD. Much has been added to version 2 to make this process extremely powerful,
so we'll talk more about this later in this document.

The Insert menu
The Insert menu contains one new option in version 2. Choose Insert | Empty Button to
add a button to your workspace that does not link to any specific media or contain any thumbnail
image. You might choose to do this if you want to design your DVD layout and know you'll need
the button, but have not completed the movie to which the button will link. Later in this
document we'll discuss techniques for assigning a link to an empty button.

The Options menu
Some options that appeared under the Options menu in version 1 now appear under the
View menu. Notice that one new option now exists under this menu. Choose Options | Preview
to External Monitor to set DVD Architect software to preview your DVD on an external NTSC or
PAL monitor through your IEEE 1394 device (just as you do in Vegas software.) Later in this
document we devote an entire section to this topic.
Also under the Options menu, the Preferences dialog now contains two new tabs. The first of
these, the Video Device tab, relates to external monitor preview. As mentioned, we'll discuss that
feature in detail later in this document.
The other tab, the Display tab, provides tools with which you can customize the color of the
buttons in the DVD Architect application interface.

Dockable windows
DVD Architect software now features the same window docking behaviors as Vegas software—
including the enhancements in version 5 of the Vegas application. Therefore, you already know
the basics of how to use docking windows from your work in earlier versions of Vegas software.
In addition, the DVD Architect also features a docking behavior that has previously been specific to Sound Forge software: the ability to dock windows to any edge of the application window as opposed to just the bottom edge as in Vegas software.

Saving media assets with project
You can now save your DVD Architect software project to a new location and automatically copy the media assets you've used in your project to that same location. This functionality makes it very easy to archive your project or to move it to another computer where you intend to work on it further. The feature ensures that you don't accidentally neglect to copy all of the necessary media along with the project file.

External monitor preview
External monitor preview support enables you to preview your DVD project on an
