The fog machine has been a staple in nearly every lighting setup. From mobile DJs, to nightclubs, to large arenas and concert venues, fog machines give light beams a boost, and create an absolutely "wow" factor for DJ effect lights and moving heads. As lighting has evolved, so has the fog machine. And while you can still get a classic "no-frills" fog machine, there are opportunities to do so much more. Here are our best fog machines for 2017 so far! Now without further ado...
Chauvet Hurricane 1800 Flex
One of the longest-running best fog machines is still in high demand. With an intense output of 25,000 cfm (cubit feet/minute), you get a lot of fog in a small amount of time. The tilting head is of the ultimate convenience for mobile setups, allowing you perfect placement of fog, even when the unit might be off your focal point.
ADJ Fog Fury Jett
Vertical fog machines have taken off in the last year or two, and a few of them have made our list of Best Fog Machiens 2017. The ADJ Fog Fury Jett lets you recreate pyrotechnic effects without the fire and chemicals. 20,000 cfm shoot upward for a towering column of fog that you can change colors on utilizing the 12 3-watt LEDs. This is definitely not a fad, as the options of vertical fog machines continues to grow.
Chauvet DJ Geyser P4
We told you the vertical fog machine wasn't a fad right? The Geyser series from Chauvet has gotten quite a boost in the last year, with more options than nearly any other manufacturer. The Geyser P4 incorporates a column of fog with RGBA+UV LED. It's certainly an excellent touch for black light parties, yet still boasts 13,500 cfm of fog output.
Chauvet DJ Hurricane 1400
Even the simplest of fog machines can be in high demand. While smaller in size than its bigger brother, the Hurricane 1400 still rocks an amazing output of 21,500 cfm. No frills makes this unit a truly affordable piece for the amount of output, and its been on our best-selling fog machine list for quite some time.
Marq Lighting Fog 400 LED White
Marq Lighting may not be changing the game of fog machines, but they certainly created a nice little piece to start! The Fog 400 series is an affordable fog machine with LEDs built in. The Amber LED on the white unit seemed to be the big winner lately, especially with the Halloween lighting fans. With a heat-up time of 3-minutes, it's fairly fast given its size, and easily hidden away for maximum surprise. The Amber LEDs truly create a bit of a pyro effect on this horizontal fog machine.
CITC The Maniac
We could have put this piece in our moving heads list, but it would still stick out from the crowd. The Maniac from CITC combines an LED moving head wash with a fog machine, giving you a truly unique effect designed for larger venues. This is an absolute "wow" factor piece, and their feature video went viral for a short time at the end of 2015. With an amazing 20,000 cfm of output, you get high quality fog with a fast-moving head for an ultimate effect that has yet to replicated.
A little bit of control goes a long way. The Antari Z-350 is a combo fog machine & hazer in one. Adjust the output as you need for a thicker or thinner output of fog. This lighter output might not seem like much at 3,000 cfm, but creating such a hybrid makes it a useful tool for lighting experts and mobile DJs alike.
ADJ VF Volcano
While the vertical fog machine market has quickly taken off, the price of them has as well. Seeing the need for an affordable unit with LEDs, ADJ created the VF Volcano. Stemming from their successful VF fog machine series, this unit boasts RGB LEDs and a modest output of 8,000 cfm, which is certainly an ideal solution for smaller venues and mobile DJs. The sleek white is one of the few available, if not the only one.
Chauvet DJ Hurricane 901
The Chauvet Hurricane 901 combines decent output with a good price point. This fog machine may still be considered entry level, but its 4,000 cfm output is one of the highest in its price range. The wired remote makes for easy operation, and at less than 8 pounds, it's definitely a portable unit.
Don't let the 15,000 cfm output fool you, this 1500-Watt fog/haze hybrid packs a lot of punch, regardless of the output you choose. The 5.6 liter tank gives you plenty of runtime without refilling. The added LCD function gives you full control right from the unit. Any lighting professional would love this for a stage or nightclub, and even though it's a late arrival, it's earned its place on our best fog machines 2017 list.
