The mic drop has become a constant by annoying MC’s, inebriated wedding guests, and other clients trying to look cool in front of their friends. No more! We’ve teamed up with the audio professionals at Shure to bring you the MDP401 microphone drop protection system, available in both wired and wireless versions.
After the onslaught of annoying Verizon commercials, we’ve noticed a serious uptick in mic drops. With a growing influx of calls for replacement microphones, the trend doesn’t seem to be going away. Given the value of most wired and wireless microphones, the MDP401 becomes a financially smart investment.
The MDP401 replaces your current
SM58 microphone with an upgraded unit. This unit comes with a built-in pin-pull system. Pull the pin, or play it safe and place the tether around the mic user's wrist. If the mic is dropped, the impact detection detonates the explosive contents.
The diaphragm of the MDP is surrounded by a healthy serving of nitroglycerin. Supplemented additives keep the solution stable until the pin is pulled. The technology stems from the 1940’s, so it’s recommended that you make every effort to avoid inadvertently dropping your microphone, even while the pin is in place.
Our in-store demo concluded that the wireless MDP401 microphone is strong enough to reach about 200 feet on UHF and take out a small bridal party. We also have one less salesperson. The wired version works just as well, but your XLR cables should be considered single-use, and you should carry backup.
In order to prevent unwanted casualties, the MDP401 is clearly marked with a warning label, reminding the mic user not to drop the microphone. This sticker is of course removable, but that is not advised for obvious reasons.
At an affordable price of $399, the MDP401 could be the last mic you ever need, or the last mic that someone will ever use. Also available in white.
